It is renowned for its purity and wonderful effects on skin and hair.

We work directly with Moroccan Berber cooperatives to source our Cactus Seed and Argan Oils. 

We press small quantities of oil that are imported every two to three months. This is to guarantee the ultimate in freshness.

🌿Moroccan Cactus Oil - The Difference?

Our authentic, virgin cactus seed oil is entirely hand-made from start to finish using traditional techniques.

Prickly Pear Cactus seeds are very hard. They contain just 5% - 10% oil.
This means we need to collect 1000 kilos to make just one litre of pure oil.

In the first step, the cactus fruits are hand-selected at just the right ripeness.
Next, the seeds are extracted from the pulp and slowly dried in the sun until the moisture content is perfect.

After this, a gentle hand toasting of the cactus seeds is performed.
This step significantly increases the content of volatile compounds that give the oil its unique smell, flavour, and nutrient composition.

Finally, the oil is extracted using a low-heat screw press process followed by filtration or sedimentation to purify the oil from solid plant material.

However, as Prickly Pear Oil became more know, sellers looked around for a lower cost alternative.
Outside of Morocco some modern commercial producers now use a mechanised process with single-stage, high-extraction machinery. This yields more oil but skips the traditional hand-processing steps, notably the toasting of the seeds, that give Moroccan cactus oil its unique properties.

These oils are generally characterized by their lighter texture and lack of toasted cactus seed smell.

🌿How to Tell Genuine Cactus Seed Oil

Cactus Seed Oil is a natural product, so the colour and smell can vary.

An authentic oil is light/medium to green/dark-yellow in colour.

An artisan Moroccan Oil will have and has a sweet/toasted cactus seed smell of fruit honey.
It contains many "volatile aromatics" giving it a similar taste/smell to honeydew melons, fig, banana, or citrus.

🌿How to Use Cactus Seed Oil

We sell pure oil from cold-pressed seeds in 11ml bottles (and also 32ml bottles).

Cactus Seed oil has a rich,creamy texture and glides on smoothly.

This gives it very good coverage - so a little oil goes a long way 🙂

An 11ml bottle contains around 260 drops and should typically last around 4 to 6 weeks if used for the face area.

Cactus seed oil is rich in nutrients that have great effects on skin and also damaged hair.

It is very popular for targeting lines and wrinkles on the face.
